Fishbot ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Fishbot mobile application handles your information.
Information We Collect
Fishbot is designed with privacy in mind. The app operates primarily locally on your device and with your Fishbot hardware.
Information We DO Collect:
- Local GPS Data: Your device's GPS location is used to display your position on the map and for navigation features. This data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
- Bluetooth Data: The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy to communicate with your Fishbot ESP32 device. This communication is local and direct between your phone and your device.
- Map Tiles: The app downloads map tiles from third-party services (OpenStreetMap, LINZ, OpenSeaMap) when you view maps. These services may log tile requests according to their own privacy policies.
- App Preferences: Settings and preferences are stored locally on your device using SharedPreferences (Android) or UserDefaults (iOS).
- Navigation History: Your navigation runs are stored locally in a SQLite database on your device for historical reference.
Information We DO NOT Collect:
- We do not collect any personal identification information
- We do not track your location
- We do not transmit your GPS data to any servers
- We do not collect analytics or usage statistics
- We do not use cookies or tracking technologies
- We do not share your data with third parties
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services for map display:
These services may log tile requests (including your IP address and requested tile coordinates) according to their own privacy policies.
Data Storage
All data collected by Fishbot is stored locally on your device:
- Navigation History: SQLite database on your device
- Map Tile Cache: Local storage on your device
- App Settings: Device local storage
No data is transmitted to external servers operated by Fishbot.
Permissions Required
The app requires the following permissions:
- Bluetooth: To communicate with your Fishbot ESP32 device
- Bluetooth Scan/Connect (Android 12+): To scan for and connect to your device
- Location (Android): Required by Android for Bluetooth scanning (not used for location tracking)
- Internet: To download map tiles from third-party services
Data Security
Your data is stored locally on your device and is protected by your device's security features. We recommend:
- Keeping your device password/PIN protected
- Keeping your device operating system updated
- Being cautious when installing other apps that request broad permissions
Children's Privacy
Fishbot does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is designed for adults engaged in fishing activities.
Data Deletion
You can delete all app data at any time by:
- Uninstalling the app (removes all local data)
- Clearing app data in your device settings
International Data Transfer
Since Fishbot does not collect or transmit data to our servers, there is no international data transfer. Map tiles are downloaded from third-party services which may be hosted internationally.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
